Passenger Killed in Solo Vehicle Crash on the I-605 Identified
May 7, 2012 - According to reports a passenger killed in a solo vehicle crash on the I-605 has been identified as a man from Huntington Beach. According to the California Highway Patrol the solo vehicle accident occurred at Sunday night in the No.4 lane in the vicinity south of Katella.
California Highway Patrol officials said the accident involved a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado that occurred when the driver made an unsafe turn and lost control of the vehicle. The driver has been identified as a 22 year old from Long Beach.
The driver suffered major injuries and was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, CHP officials said.
The passenger identified as a 22 year old man from Huntington Beach was killed in the solo crash. California Highway Patrol officials said that the truck left the roadway and struck a tree head-on and the driver had to be removed from the vehicle by the Seal Beach and Long Beach firefighters.
According to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Marc Stone said that hazardous material specialist were called to the scene of the crash due to containers in the truck marked as radioactive material. Capt. Stone said that the containers were construction equipment vaults and did not contain hazardous materials.
