April 15, 2012- According to reports a driver was arrested after crashing into a vehicle and causing it to catch fire and then helping to pull the driver out of the pickup truck.
According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred early Saturday morning on Interstate 805 in the vicinity of state Route 52 in San Diego.
California Highway Patrol officials said the driver of a white BMW struck a pickup truck that was stalled on the shoulder of the road.
The impact caused the pickup’s rear axle to be thrown from the vehicle and caused the gas tank to explode. The burning gas was sprayed onto the freeway, CHP officials said.
The driver of the BMW that is suspected of driving under the influence assisted person passing by to pull the driver out of the burning pickup truck.
The California Highway Patrol officials said the drive of the pickup and the driver of the BMW were transported to an area hospital for treatment and both are expected to make a full recovery.
According to the California Highway Patrol the driver of the BMW is facing charges of driving under the influence.
