December 26, 2011 - According to reports a 12 year old girl was struck and killed on the 60 Freeway in Riverside County. According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred on Sunday at approximately 11:00 p.m. on the 60 Freeway in Riverside County. The accident occurred in the westbound lanes of the freeway in Mira Loma, in the vicinity east of Wineville.
The 12 year old has been identified as Eunice Flores of Riverside, who was struck by a 1991 Mercedes 300E. According to the California Highway Patrol Flores was attempting to retrieve belongings that had fallen off of the Chevrolet Suburban she was traveling in as a passenger.
The driver identified as John Sullivan age 74 was traveling at approximately 70 mph, when he saw the girl in the westbound lane of the 60 Freeway and was unable to avoid hitting Flores. The 12 year old Flores was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the California Highway Patrol said.
Sullivan the driver of the Mercedes was not arrested and he was not injured in the collision. There has been no information released about the occupants of the Chevrolet Suburban and the California Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation in the collision that resulted in Flores fatal injuries.
